You’ve heard the buzz, self-care should be a regular part of your routine. Here’s the deal, its true. When we take the time to care for our own needs and to do things that make us feel good, it creates a domino effect in our own life as well as those around us. So let’s talk about some really simple ways you can treat yourself to some body lovin’ moments.
Love on Your Feet
How often do you think about your feet? I’d bet for most of you, its when you stub your toe! I got to thinking about this the other day when I saw a woman who’s little tootsies where dry and didn’t look so good. Her toe nails were painted, but in general, you could tell she was neglecting her self-care. Often, here in Arizona we are keen on wearing sandals most of the time, which does contribute to our feet feeling so dry. So how can you give your feet some love? The easiest and quickest way is to remember to cover your feet and toes with lotion or an oil after you get out of the shower. Remember to rub it on your toenails, cuticles, and on the back of your ankle. This not only feels amazing but it will help your feet feel softer and energized. I also recommend that you have a reflexology session or have your feet massaged at least every quarter, more if it’s possible.
Take a Bath
Baths are amazing! When was the last time you took a bath? I try to get in to the bath tub at least twice a month in the summer months and weekly in the winter months. And the frequency can depend on why I need a bath. When my muscles hurt from a tough workout or when I’m feeling a bit under the weather, a hot bath filled with 4 cups of epsom salt, a quarter cup of baking soda, and a few drops of lavender or frankincense works wonders. I also take a bath if I’m feeling stressed out or if I just want to sit and relax. And if you’re feeling playful, you could add some bubbles! In my opinion, baths are an overlooked self-care tool that you could easily add to your routine.
Use Essential Oils
Oh my, I love essential oils. They are amazing. I do want you to know that it’s super important that you purchase oils that are high-quality. I don’t recommend buying your oils at Walmart. If they are super cheap, you should know that means that they are not of good quality and they won’t have the same impact as an oil that is of good quality. This is important because you want to have the full effect of the oils if you’re going to take the time to use them. A few of the bigger companies I would recommend are doTERRA and Young Living. Another fantastic option is to use an aromatherapist locally who sell essential oils that they have carefully sourced and tested. A few that I use are Lola at Be Kind Botanicals and Katie at Essential Journeying. Both of these ladies are amazing and super knowledgable.
Here are a few ways you can easily integrate essential oils into your self-care routine.
- Get yourself a diffuser and diffuse your favorite essential oils. This will fill the air with awesomeness.
- Place one drop of an oil in the palm of your hand and rub both hands together. Cup your hands over your nose and take deep breaths. This is a relaxing and calming way to take in the essential oils. My favorites are lavender, eucalyptus, frankincense and a blend from doTERRA called Balance, depending upon my mood.
- Add a drop of oil to your lotion when you’re applying it to your feet (or all of your body) as I mentioned in the Love on Your Feet section.
I cannot stress this enough. Outside of the obvious that we need water to survive, the lack of water intake can dramatically impact how you feel. If you’re feeling fatigued, have brain fog, and/or feel ick, chances are you need more water. What I have found is that when I’m feeling extremely tired in the middle of the day, especially if I am running errands, it’s because I haven’t had enough water. As soon as I guzzle down a few glasses of water, I’m feeling back to normal and energized. A few other recommendations I have is that if you’re sick, drink lots of water. One practice I’ve been doing for years is envisioning the water running through my body washing away all those cooty cells. Believe it or not, this will also work if you are having a really bad headache or migraine. And if you consume a bit too much alcohol one evening, be sure to drink several glasses of water before you go to bed. You will be amazed at how better you’re body will dispose of the alcohol and how much better you will feel in the morning.
Hopefully these few tips will inspire you to love on yourself more. You’ll find when you take these small steps to care for your own body and mental wellbeing, life gets better and your overall outlook on life naturally improves.
